Protection. Education. Connection. There's an app for that at ascpskincare.com/app 87 CONSIDERATIONS For those who are not already in the beauty industry but wanting to offer these services, you should learn more affordable services as well, such as facials and waxing, so you can obtain repeat clientele and then upsell your permanent makeup services. This can help create stable income while you refine your tattooing skills and gain experience. If you do a great permanent makeup service, your clients may only need to see you every few years, which creates a need to constantly obtain new clients. It's also a great idea to create a community with others in the field. Throughout my trainings, I've connected with classmates on social media to keep in touch. Don't look at each other as competition— there are enough clients out there for all of us—think of them as a support network. As you grow in your career, it's amazing to have a community you can turn to for advice and encouragement. We are each other's cheerleaders, and we can all help each other thrive in this industry. A POSITIVE CAREER CHOICE As with any career, offering permanent makeup and paramedical tattooing has challenges in the beginning. But if you're passionate about the field and enjoy the process, it's worth the work and investment. This is a career choice that will allow you to help many people with their confidence and self-esteem. At the beginning of this year, I had a 77-year-old client who came in for a consultation. She expressed how much she wanted eyebrows again and how she could no longer draw them on due to shaky hands and vision issues. She had never received a tattoo before and was very nervous. The day of her appointment, her husband dropped her off at my salon, and as we were drawing her shape, she told me that her husband used to be in the US Marine Corps and got a tattoo a few decades ago. He did not believe she would be able to make it through the appointment and thought he would be coming back to get her very soon. I explained to her that I numb the area and it is not a very painful procedure. After two hours, my client had brows again and had tolerated the service like a champ. When she looked in the mirror, she started crying tears of joy; that moment meant so much to me. As I walked her out, we both realized she could tell her husband that she now had two tattoos to his one. Notes 1.
