Springer What words of advice do you have for other brand owners and infl uencers in the industry? It's time to collaborate! Skin care products used in this industry are not for all skin types and tones. Achieving optimal skin health is a personalized journey—there's no universal solution that fi ts everyone. Skin's unique characteristics, lifestyle, environment, and genetics all play crucial roles in determining the most eff ective skin care treatments and modalities. If you know how to "read" skin, it will tell you what it needs. I encourage estheticians to carry more than one product line, especially if they want to include a corrective program that addresses skin conditions, such as acne, rosacea, hyperpigmentation, melasma, etc. THIS YEAR'S ASCP INDUSTRY ICON, Pamela R. Springer, has spent decades in the skin care industry. She's a licensed esthetician, an esthetics instructor, the author of two books, an ASCP Skin Deep contributor, and the founder of both Global Skin Solutions and The Skin & Makeup Institute of Arizona. She specializes in multi-ethnic skin care and trains estheticians in clinical treatments for pigmentation anomalies, acne, and aging. We caught up with Pamela to congratulate her on the award. What does it feel like to be this year's ASCP Industry Icon? I am humbled to know that ASCP readers nominated me for this year's Icon award! The struggles were many, but those struggles became blessings. What's the biggest goal you've accomplished in your career? There have been many goals I have achieved in the 30-plus years as an educator! My biggest goal was when I founded The Skin & Makeup Institute of Arizona in 1999. Initially, [it was] a postgraduate school, but the following year we added the state board curriculum. At the age of 50, I fi nally found my passion. Quick: You can only use one skin care product or device for the rest of your life, what is it? A skin-analyzing system. IMAGES COURTESY PAMELA R. SPRINGER
