Self-care seems to be the buzzword these days, but practicing self-care still stands as one of the most important things you can do for yourself. It's OK to take a step back in order to take a step forward. Practicing self-care can help you refocus and slow down, even for a moment. Self- care practices include going for a walk, exercising, getting regular massages, and doing things you enjoy. You can discover more ways to practice self- care on page 47. Find Your People. Being able to fi nd a sense of community while recovering your career passion provides a solid support system. Being able to relate to others can help you realize you are not alone and are able to overcome your feelings of burnout and/ or the loss of passion. This community can consist of friends and family, religious organizations, or even your yoga class. The key is to fi nd people where you feel the most comfortable—this is where you're your most authentic self. Incorporate Gratitude and Praise. Give yourself a pat on the back and learn to celebrate previous wins. Just like your career, your passion can ebb and fl ow. During this quiet phase, reevaluate your recent achievements, especially the ones that excited you the most. Maybe you have a new passion you have yet to discover. It's OK to consider pivoting to something new. Maybe you're a service provider and want to pivot to sales after celebrating your recent retail wins. In this industry, there are so many avenues you can take. Hire a Mentor or Coach. Working with a mentor or a coach is a great way to get clear about the next steps in your career. Your mentor or coach can help you take a step back, assess your current situation, and help identify areas you need to improve upon. A mentor or coach can also provide tips on how to reignite your passion for your career. Stay Positive. When you are on the brink of burnout, trying to stay positive might seem like a daunting task. Practicing positivity helps you acknowledge the good going on in your life instead of the bad. One way to inspire positive thinking is to have a mantra, a positive statement, or your favorite quote in a visible place at work. Read it daily as a reminder to stay motivated and positive that there are great days ahead. Bonus: Creating a single-word mantra for 2024 at the start of the year is a great anchor to return to again and again if you lose your way. Examples might include: "alignment," "focus," "health," or "gratitude." Step Away. Remember that you are human. Taking a vacation or even spending time with loved ones may be just the thing you need to revive your passion. Taking your mind off things for a while may help you realize just how much you love them. Renewing your passion for your career may take one or all of these strategies to feel renewed and motivated. Remember that your career is a journey, not a destination—it's OK to take a step back, breathe, and reevaluate.
