62 ascp skin deep september/october 2019 For a longer service, the client should be comfortably situated and draped properly for modesty and comfort, with their own selection of music playing. A soothing, hydrating facial mask could be offered while they are being waxed to provide added pampering benefits and enhance the spa- like experience. 1. Put on a pair of vinyl gloves and spray an herbal astringent or alcohol on the area to be waxed. This will remove oils from the skin and prevent potential ingrown hairs. Pat the skin dry. 2. Apply a hydrating sheet mask on the client's face to refresh and hydrate the skin. Encourage the client to relax. 3. Using a clean spatula, apply wax to the skin on the pubic bone area, inner thighs, and buttocks area in the direction of the hair growth using one long, Spa Protocol for Bikini and Brazilian Waxing smooth movement. Always use a clean spatula. NO DOUBLE DIPPING! 4. Place a new muslin strip over wax, leaving space to pull the strip. Apply gentle pressure to the strip and quickly pull back in the opposite direction of the hair growth. Apply pressure on the area waxed. Do not pull up on the strip, as this can cause breakage. 5. Take a small amount of hard wax and apply on both labia majora areas. Pull back the wax strips using your fingers or spatula. Apply light pressure on the area. 6. Have the client bend the legs toward the head and wax the area around the anus. 7. Continue with the waxing process on the rest of the area to be treated. 8. Once you have finished waxing, once again spray herbal astringent and blot with soft tissue. 9. To calm the appearance of irritation, apply a frozen cube of soothing gel formulated with seaweed, aloe, green and rooibos tea extracts, and hyaluronic acid to the area. If the client has time, apply a seaweed- based alginate mask to the bikini and thigh area to help rebalance and restore the skin barrier. While this mask is on, perform a hand massage, remove the facial mask, and perform a facial massage. Finish the facial with application of a moisturizer and sunscreen. 10. Remove the alginate mask by rolling it up gently, then lightly remove residue with a moistened cotton pad. 11. Complete the experience by placing a warm towel over the waxed area, then apply a thin layer of rich body oil that contains extracts of sunflower seed and mafura butter. 12. Recommend appropriate home care to complement the waxing service and to keep skin smooth and healthy. 13. Make sure to rebook in four weeks or as needed.
