PRE-TREATMENT CHECKLIST • Prepare the bed with proper linens, a disposable sheet, and towels. Each treatment requires a fresh disposable sheet, towel, and paper covering. • Wash hands before and after each client. Use liquid antibacterial soap for at least 10–15 seconds. • Use gloves to ensure your safety and the safety of the client. Use nonlatex versions and make sure they fit properly. • It goes without saying, but must be said again: NO DOUBLE DIPPING! • All nondisposable instruments must be sterilized in a sterilizer or autoclave before and after treatments. This includes metal spatulas, tweezers, and body brushes. • Disposable items must be kept in a closed environment near the waxing station. • Be sure the treatment room has been cleaned and dusted each evening before going home and that all wax residue has been removed from the floor, trolley, and pot. A SPA-LIKE EXPERIENCE With a little creativity, a waxing service can be transformed into a relaxing spa service. As with all spa services, proper skin care is the first consideration. Look for wax and pre- and post-wax skin care products that incorporate ingredients that hydrate, reduce the appearance of redness and irritation, and help restore the moisture barrier of the skin. These ingredients include: • Laminaria digitata and Ascophyllum nodosum seaweed extracts that contain vitamins, minerals, and trace elements to help hydrate and soothe the appearance of the skin • Safflower oil, which contains high levels of vitamin E • Aloe vera, a well-known desert plant with soothing benefits • Titanium dioxide and zinc oxide, natural minerals that are absorbent and astringent Also, consider following up with an application of a soothing, cooling mask to the waxed area to help calm the appearance of the skin and create a truly luxurious bikini and Brazilian waxing experience. Spa-inspired add-ons not just a gimmick; they are beneficial because they help prevent inflammation, redness, and ingrown hairs. Just as important, you have the opportunity to turn a service once consigned to a form of necessary torture into an enjoyable treatment, one that the clients will want to come back for time and time again. Look for wax and pre- and post-wax skin care products that incorporate ingredients that hydrate, reduce the appearance of redness and irritation, and help restore the moisture barrier of the skin.
