3, 2,1, Contact! Quickly build your practice with a client list by Christine G. Adamo There are few business moves that are easier or more important to your success than creating and keeping an up-to-date client list. If you don't already have one, start one. If you have one but never use it for marketing purposes, break that habit and earn more money in the process. A client list can be a thing of beauty. There are many tools available to help you build and use your list, but you can use any method that works for you—low-tech or high-tech, free or paid. Before you decide on a method, decide why you're doing it. This will lead to a better understanding of what information your list should contain. Why Keep a List? Let's review three areas where a great client list can help you. 1. SAFETY Estheticians can always use an added buffer of protection against claims of negligence or legal action. You should already be using intake and health history forms, and much of what's on those forms can be the basis of your client list. If an accident does happen, having this documentation on file can help prove you did all the right things. 2. CUSTOMER SERVICE You know that coffee shop you love, where they recognize you and know your favorite order? That's the type of experience you want to give your clients. The happier you make a client, the more pleasant he or she is to work with—am I right? Reviewing the client list prior to appointments fosters the type of personalized service that inspires loyalty. It doesn't matter whether you look them up one week, one day, or one hour before appointments. What matters is having clients' preferences in mind and remembering what you talked about the last time you saw them—not just clinical details, but anything going on in their personal lives that they may have shared with you. 30 ASCP Skin Deep November/December 2013
