ascp and you: your turn Ideas From Our Members What are your skin care dreams, goals, hopes, or plans for 2013? Im working on obtaining an expert status certification in my skin care line at International Dermal Institute. My goal is to obtain that, and continue my education into more advanced esthetics. Jodi Braun Reading, Pennsylvania My goal is to offer quality services and products specific to the needs of my clients. Although I have a small number of clients in my day spa, that gives me the advantage of extra time and attention to being fully present with each client. I would love to grow and give more specialized services to many more clients. Rosemary Hunter Charleston, West Virginia I am an oncology esthetician, and I am in the planning stages of opening my spa. My goal is to promote health and energy healing with a holistic approach, not only to my clients skin, but to life itself. I love what I do! Its the most rewarding career, and to have such appreciative clients is an amazing feeling. The fact that you help someone feel better, and help them feel beautiful again, is a gift. Kallie Hutcheson Wichita, Kansas I started a small solo practice three years ago and have been slowly building it. I use a room in a hair salon. Each year, I have written down and accomplished a couple of goals. It has been quite challenging at times, to the point of feeling discouraged, but giving up is not an option! In 2013, I would like to be able to operate out of my own space, to accommodate my facial bed, machines, tables, and skin care products. I just purchased an oxygen facial unit and have been getting wonderful responses. I also have my eye on obtaining a microcurrent machine so I can master it and work the magic it has to offer. Caroline Forcheskie Lupo Yorktown Heights, New York My goals are to continue my education and to always provide my clients with the best possible treatments for their money. I love to meet and network with fellow professionals who wish to improve our industry. I have been licensed for more than 10 years now. I love what I do teaching my clients how to take better care of their skin. I currently own a small day spa in my very small town and love the gals and man I work with. They are an amazing group, and I am very fortunate. Best of luck to all you newly licensed estheticians. I encourage everyone to attend at least one state board meeting in your area. Its amazing what you can learn. I am a sole practitioner and have been blessed to be so busy that I often dont find the time to do whats on my to-do list. My goals for next year include continuing my education by adding lymphatic drainage massage and/or oncology esthetics. The only way to survive and thrive in this business is by giving your clients what they need and seek, and also providing services that go beyond the typical facial or waxing. My plan for success includes setting up my marketing for the year: coming up with monthly ideas that will be sent as email campaigns and being consistent with a monthly newsletter and a blog. On a personal level, I plan to continue working on making my body and soul healthier and happier. I would have to say that in 2012 my biggest personal accomplishment was taking time out for meeating right, exercising, and meditating. Denise Ivers Cupertino, California As a newly licensed esthetician, and as someone who is looking to start over in life, I would say my goal is to get myself out there: get new clients, new friends, a new support group, and a new attitude toward life. Cat C. Oakland, California Robin Willoughby Frazier Park, California Answer our next question: Whats your policy on children in the spawhether as clients, or tagging along unexpectedly with their parents? How do you handle it when a client brings her child along? Email your answer to editor@ascpskincare.com. Answers will appear in the March/April issue and may be edited for length and clarity. 40ASCP Skin Deep January/February 2013
