I'm guilty of it too. This past year, I caught myself feeling burned out several times. After the most recent time, I looked deep within myself and started tending to fl owers in my garden that needed care and attention. That led me on an unexpected journey: I began physical therapy to heal hip pain onset by an injury from several years ago, which I had been trying to ignore; I paused teaching ballet due to that hip pain; and, as you may know, I left my position as the editor of this magazine. Since looking inward, my hip has begun to improve. I danced in a small performance in December. On the horizon I can see getting back to teaching (I miss the kids immensely). And, as evidenced by this very letter, you can probably guess what happened with the magazine—I came back! I'm happy to say that my moments of self-care and internal refl ection led me to return to this position. It's an honor to be the editor of this magazine and provide our readers with content that helps them fl ourish as skin care experts, savvy business leaders, and caregivers. There are reminders everywhere for us to pause and practice self-care, but rarely do we stop to consider why self-care is so important. This industry is amazing in many ways, but it's also taxing on the body and mind and requires self-motivation that doesn't always come naturally. I hope the articles in this issue help you understand why self-care is so vital. On page 60, Lydia Sarfati shares what self-care means to estheticians. Then, learn about the invisible workload you might be unknowingly carrying (page 68) and what self-care looks like for those who are experiencing grief (page 76). And fi nally, put therapeutic exercise into your everyday toolkit with the actionable advice on page 82. Self-care is the key to your success—both as an esthetician and a person with a full life outside of work. I hope you take the time you need to tend to the fl owers in your garden, like I did with mine.
