Protection. Education. Connection. There's an app for that at ascpskincare.com/app 67 skin but can strip the surface oils from sensitive or dry skin and cause barrier damage. A few examples of cleanser ingredients that are surfactants include ammonium lauryl sulfate, cocamidopropyl betaine, and decyl glucoside. Dry and Sensitive Skin Cleansers Clients who have dry or sensitive skin may need a cleanser with little or no surfactant. These cleansers do not foam or foam very little. Sensitive skin often has a fragile barrier of protective surface lipids that should not be stripped. Stripping this barrier can set the stage for inflammation. Using a surfactant- free cleanser will ensure that these important guarding lipids are left to protect the skin. Cleansing oils are sometimes used for dry skin. Cleansing oils are helpful in the process of makeup removal but can leave a greasy residue that needs to be removed, often with a toner or astringent. If not properly removed, these residues can cause pore-clogging issues. Specialty Cleansers Cleansers may contain special ingredients designed for a specific skin type or condition. For example, cleansers for dry skin may contain lipids or fats to buffer the skin contact with any surfactants in the cleanser. This reduces the amount of sebum or oil removed from the skin surface. Anti-acne ingredients like benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid can be added to cleansers to help kill bacteria and clear acne blemishes. Soothing ingredients like green tea, matricaria (chamomile) extract, and aloe vera may be added to cleansing products for sensitive and redness-prone skin. Mild chemical exfoliants like glycolic acid are added to formulas to aid in exfoliation. Alternatively, exfoliation granules can be added to cleansers to provide a mechanical scrubbing-type exfoliation. Your client should feel like the cleansing is not a procedure they could replicate at home and that your hands have the experience of performing this ritual hundreds of times. STOCKSY
