ascp now offers advanced modality insurance! ascpskincare.com/ami 55 Because of my makeup training and revision, I was able to camouflage pretty well. When I began working with lasers and microneedling later on in my career, I began "playing" with my scar. I used peels, lasers, and needling and started to see dramatic differences in the scarring. During my micropigmentation training with Tarryn Vice, UK Micropigmentation Award Winner, I allowed her to reshape my cupid's bow using permanent makeup. That's when the lightbulb went off! I thought, wow, I can completely transform and camouflage my cleft to the point that it's nearly unnoticeable. This is why I created the Non-Surgical Cleft Restoration Mission behind Le Pamier. If I can somehow help others with clefts camouflage their scars, just like I did, I can make so many people feel more confident. Q. Tell us about your recent event for military wives. How has having a military spouse changed your vision? A. In August 2018, I initially wanted to host an event that would help bring awareness to my new skin care collection and the company mission, and introduce my fellow military spouses to my boutique. As I began planning, the event turned into much more than that. I had joined several spouse groups throughout base and discovered that there weren't many organized activities for the spouses who had husbands deployed or simply needed a great day out. Having a newfound understanding for my fellow military spouses gave a whole new meaning to just throwing a simple event. In eight weeks, I managed to create an event called Women.Wellness.Wisdom. I gathered 20 female business owners in the wellness industry from all across Washington to exhibit their services and products. We received sponsorships from LYFT, USO Northwest, and a few other local businesses; brought in five incredible speakers, including the amazing Becky Kuehn, founder of Oncology Spa Solutions; and secured over 100 gifts to give away. I knocked on the doors of businesses who didn't know me, but listened to my vision and what I wanted to offer these incredible women. I even received NFL- signed gear from the Seahawks. All this in eight weeks! These 200 military spouses and active-duty and veteran women were given a beautiful morning brunch, provided information from wellness experts, and most walked away with incredible gifts. It was a day to remember and ended up not being about my business, but all about them. I'm already planning a much larger event to host twice the number of military women this coming September. I'm currently working toward collaborating with The Rosie Network, a nonprofit that supports military entrepreneurs. I have recently taken on the role of vice president of events for Northwest Military Wives Foundation, a nonprofit that inspires women on their journey to becoming their best selves. Q. What advice do you have for new estheticians who are just getting started? A. Find your niche! I knew from the beginning that I wanted to specialize in skin, and 20 years later I continue to do just that. Be creative and stand apart from your competition. Esthetics college will prepare you for the basics, but advancing your education is key. Continue to educate yourself and always stay on top of the latest trends. Think outside the box if you plan to open your own business. Brand yourself and your business around who you are and what your vision is—and stay true to that. I'm currently working with a nutrition company, Grand Nutrition in Gig Harbor, to create a smoothie for their customers that nourishes skin and hair from the inside out. Finding other like- minded businesses to collaborate with will benefit your business and help build trust and your client base within your community. Keep moving forward!
