Remove the OUCH! from Waxing by Janet McCormick Theres no way around it: bikini waxes hurt. Even my toughest friends, those who kickbox or endured natural childbirth, have told me they dread getting waxed. So says Los Angeles dermatologist Jessica Wu, and most would agree with her. Thats why estheticians can grow their clientele, income, and reputations by perfecting preparation techniques that minimize the pain whether waxing the bikini area or anywhere else. As an added bonus, ouchless techniques also improve the speed and efficiency of hair removal. Here are some tips for becoming the esthetician everyone books with because a bikini wax is no longer torture. The Right Wax Your inventory of waxes should include both hard (stripless) wax and soft (strip) wax, and you should know the differences in application and use. Hard wax is best for hair removal where the skin is sensitive: bikini area, face, and underarms. The technique is not difficult, just different than with strips. Its wise to take a class or get tutoring from an esthetician who is experienced in using hard wax. 18ASCP Skin Deep May/June 2013
