Advanced education is an investment in your future success, and there are plenty of options, from DVDs and trade-show demonstrations to hands-on training. I recommend private, one-on-one training as the best option if it is accessible to you, with group classes as the second-best choice. Finally, the most important product in waxing is wax! Dont be afraid to spend money on a quality wax. I always shoot for at least mid- to high-quality wax. There really is a difference. Higher-end waxes go through a more intense filtering process that decreases the amount of harsh ingredients they contain and makes them less irritating to the skin. The biggest moneymakers are brow, Brazilian, lip, chin, and underarm waxing, in that order. Focus on Money-Makers You can offer whatever waxing services you like, but if you are going for maximum profitability you will want to become an expert in brows and Brazilians, then focus on those in your marketing. The biggest money-makers are brow, Brazilian, lip, chin, and underarm waxing, in that order. If you can perform these services cleanly, efficiently, and quickly, they will be your bread and butter. The profit in waxing depends on the time each service takes and the amount of wax required. See the sidebar on page 15 for a detailed look at why some services may be a better use of your time than others. Market Some Add-Ons Estheticians often market waxing as an add-on to their other servicesfor example, upselling a brow or lip wax to a facial client. The reverse can be done in a practice that specializes in waxing. Offer additional services that pair nicely with your waxing. Here are a few suggestions: Brow/lash tinting. If youre a brow specialist, why not expand on that? Tinting is quick and easy (once you are trained) and adds another $15 or more to each brow service. Glitter tattoos are very popular and can be applied to almost any part of the body. This type of add-on can also include vajazzlingcrystal artwork on the upper pubic area. Both are quick and easy, with stencils available to create a variety of artwork, and can bring in another $10$15 or more on each service. High frequency after waxing will calm inflammation and provide antibacterial benefits. This little add-on takes only minutes and can add up to $10 on any waxing service. Microcurrent can be added as a quick mini-lift after brow waxing or any other facial waxing service, for an extra $15$20. The most important thing to remember about waxing is that it is a true specialty and you need to practice every day to build your skill and confidence. Work on your friends and family, or advertise for people to practice on while youre building your skillsjust wax, wax, wax! When waxing is second nature to you, a whole new world of profitability will open up. Crickett Enos is a waxing specialist and educator based in Barstow, California.
