It was really the only modality around in the '90s. Even though I owned a day spa, I would go to a plastic surgeon's office one afternoon a week to do microderm treatments. We booked them every 15 minutes (can you believe that?) and charged $250 (can you believe that?). I would cleanse, microderm, apply 70 percent glycolic acid, neutralize, and apply sunscreen … next client! I was completely booked every Tuesday with eight patients on a slow day and 16 on a busy day. I did this for over 10 years. Today I like to use the DermaDisc resurfacing tool. It achieves the same great exfoliation as microdermabrasion, without the suction. As our clients get older, suction isn't really necessary. We don't want to break capillaries or stretch the skin. I also like the microderm machines with infusion, and the suction turned down low. ULTRASONIC SPATULA It's a must-have in every esthetic toolbox. Using sound waves (25,000 to 28,000 vibrations per second is most effective), the ultrasonic spatula works to exfoliate, do extractions, and facilitate product penetration. Three treatments with one little tool are very impressive. It's highly effective, yet very gentle and can be used on rosacea and sensitive skin types. I use the spatula in every treatment I offer. I consider this tool a regular component of a treatment. LED LIGHT THERAPY I purchased my first LED machine in 2002. It had two hand pieces and I achieved some wonderful results. But I have to tell you that sitting there holding the tool on one spot for a few minutes, then placing it on the next spot, hold, hold, hold, then move to the next spot … oh my, that got old really fast!
