www.ascpskincare.com 51 LOOK WHO'S TALKING Last year, Spa Nordstrom introduced a service using Saltability's Himalayan salt stones and warmers in all of its locations in North America and its spa directors raved about the therapeutic benefits and the positive feedback from clients. "We launched the Himalayan salt stone service in June 2015, and it has quickly become one of our most popular massage services," says Vickie Hauck, national spa director for Spa Nordstrom. Therapists have noticed how the stones have changed the way they provide services. "The Saltability stones feel amazing to work with," says Marci Howard, director of spa and wellness for Red Mountain Resort in St. George, Utah. "The way they are shaped really allows you a lot of flexibility with how you can use each stone to get into trigger points or glide smoothly, and they are easy to hold." These stones are also eco-friendly. Many Himalayan salt stone warmers do not produce an electromagnetic field and use less electricity, and the stones are easy to clean. Because Himalayan salt is antibacterial, antimicrobial, and antiviral, I simply use a hospital-grade disinfectant made from thyme oil. HOW DO I SALT IT UP? With my years serving as a spa director, I know what goes through your mind when faced with making changes to the services you offer. Will it be worth it? Is it economical and practical? What equipment is needed? How will I educate myself and my practitioners? It's not as hard as it sounds. There are easy ways to incorporate a few new salt products and services that will not only provide additional health benefits to your clients but will also improve your bottom line. Decide what services are right for you. Some, such as exfoliation scrubs, need no equipment other than the salt; others require more of an investment. Do your research. Look for a company that not only provides quality salt products, but that also offers a guide on how to incorporate those products into your business. Some salt providers have manuals and other resources to teach you how to execute each service correctly. Use these resources to ensure you and your practitioners are ready to answer questions, educate the client, and offer the service in a consistent fashion. Take advantage of this new (old) trend, and incorporate a salt service or two into your existing menu. It's sure to be a hit.
