50 may/june 2016 INCORPORATE SOME SALT Himalayan salt has 84 naturally occurring minerals and elements that have been shown to benefi t the body by calming the nervous system, improving sleep, lowering blood pressure, reducing infl ammation and signs of aging, and stimulating circulation. This salt comes in many forms—blocks, crystals, lamps, stones, and other off erings for a wide range of usage— and can be used in detoxifying baths, exfoliation scrubs, and halotherapy vapor. One of the easiest ways to incorporate salt therapy into your business is through salt stone massage. Spas have been off ering stone massage for years, but using a salt stone, and specifi cally a Himalayan salt stone, has more benefi ts than the traditional stone massage. The stones are warmed and placed on the client's skin, allowing the minerals to be absorbed into the body. The treatment is not only relaxing, it also balances the central nervous system and nourishes depleted cells by balancing cells' saline and mineral content. You can also use the salt as a scrub for a facial or body exfoliation. Some spas off er a detoxifying wrap that includes massaging the salts into the body and wrapping the client in a heated infrared blanket to further assist the absorption of minerals. Contraindications for salt therapy include severe hypertension, skin conditions such as eczema or psoriasis, and open wounds. As with all new programs, clients should check with their physician if they have any concerns about salt therapy. Decide what services are right for you. Some, such as exfoliation scrubs, need no equipment other than the salt; others require more of an investment. Do your research.
