Rules, regulations, and restrictions change constantly, sometimes without notification. Get involved with your local state boards, attend meetings, and join the conversation. You never know—you may be the change that's needed in your state. Be a marketing mentor. If your supreme marketing efforts have resulted in a full book, then show others how to do it— for a fee, of course—and bring in another stream of income. Did you create your own website, design a killer logo, and develop your branding right on down to your social media feeds? You know as well as I do that marketing and business building are typically not taught in beauty schools. This is a virtually untapped market for those who know their stuff. Be a product rep. Do you think your product line is the best thing since sliced bread? Approach the company about becoming an educator, trainer, or sales representative. This can get you out of the treatment room for a while, and, depending on the company, there may be a significant amount of free training. You educate your clients; why not get paid to educate other skin care professionals? And it's another great way to build your brand. Find your inner author. You may want to consider writing articles for some industry trades, such as the one you're reading right now. Other publications, such as Skin Inc., Dermascope, American Spa, and Les Nouvelles Esthétiques, are always looking for expert writers to share their knowledge. If you can't get your articles published, start your own blog on your website or craft a newsletter. Find your inner teacher. Continue to build your reputation as a skin care authority by offering your services as a guest speaker to local beauty colleges and cosmetology schools. You won't get paid, but
