For centuries, people around the world have turned to these mineral-rich waters to help heal, rest, and restore. To me, that tradition ref lects a larger truth: The health of our bodies is closely connected to the health of the earth beneath us. Whether through mineral waters, nutrient-rich soil, or organic foods, I learned early that nature has an extraordinary ability to support wellness. This culture of natural wellness has impacted my life in many ways, most tangibly in childhood. When I was young, I battled a rare form of childhood leukemia. While in the hospital, I received mostly conventional medical treatments; however, my family was committed to using more traditional holistic remedies and organic foods straight from the garden to help me regain my strength. The organic produce I ate was instrumental in my journey of healing, and through the work of everyone in my life, I completely recovered even though I had less than 0.1 percent chance of survival. PAYING IT FORWARD After living through the harsh reality of leukemia at such a young age, and experiencing the healing powers of organic nutrition firsthand, my brother and I knew we wanted to help other children in similar situations. That is how the Éminence Kids Foundation started in 2013. As a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit, the Éminence Kids Foundation provides access to organic nutrition for children undergoing treatments for life-threatening illnesses, regardless of their circumstances. We started with juice, because kids undergoing treatments T he world of esthetics has power beyond the treatment room. In such a large industry, there are many opportunities to contribute something positive to a cause bigger than yourself or your business. At Éminence Organic Skin Care, we've used the power of esthetics to not only benefit and enhance our skin but also the planet and communities around the world through our philanthropic efforts. Our story is just one of many in our industry of estheticians giving back, and I hope sharing it can give you an idea or two for your business. OUR ROOTS IN ORGANIC WELLNESS When my brother Attila and I started our business, organic skin care wasn't exactly mainstream in North America. People were skeptical, questioning whether natural ingredients could have the same benefits and professional results as the skin care products they were used to. We were determined to prove them wrong. My brother and I spent years on the road in our old, beat-up Chevy Malibu station wagon visiting spas and skin care professionals across the country. We wanted them to try our products firsthand and see how powerful natural ingredients could be. My love for the power of organic produce began when I was young. I grew up in Hungary under the inf luence of my mother and grandmother, who were both passionate about natural wellness, which is a big part of Hungarian culture. Hungary is home to more than 1,300 thermal springs, which are enriched with minerals from the earth.
