50 ASCP Skin Deep Autumn 2026 BEYOND TREATMENT are everywhere online. Since you're familiar with their skin type/needs, they should be making purchases from you. (For more on this, check out "Beware of Dupe Culture" in the Summer 2026 issue of ASCP Skin Deep.) 5. "I give my clients the menu so they can see the services we have; it's not up to me to make any suggestions." Most clients have no idea what some of your services accomplish or what might be good for their particular skin situation. Your professional recommendation will be appreciated and respected. 6. "My business owner is responsible for keeping me busy and finding me new clients." It's up to you to promote yourself with friends and family and on your social media platforms. If you're working in a location with client foot traffic, meet and greet people to tell them about your services. Don't hide in your treatment room expecting employees at reception to tell clients about you. 7. "Rebooking a client isn't really important. They know their schedule and will contact us when they are ready." Clients have good intentions of rebooking, but everyday life moves at a fast pace. We lose track of time, and before you know it, you haven't seen that client for over a year. It's very important to get the next appointment on your book; you can always help them move the date when you reach out to confirm it. 8. "My clients love me. They will never go elsewhere for service." But maybe a friend tells them about a new esthetician, or the client goes into their hair salon and hears about a new service special and tries it. Before you know it, that client is gone. It's very important to have regular communication with your clients. 9. "I don't want to work weekends or evenings." You should definitely have personal time so you don't burn out, but you also need to accommodate clients' needs. Consider when you're able to make allowances in your schedule. SUCCESS IN SKIN CARE IS NOT ACCIDENTAL Success is built through consistent choices, intentional thinking, and a willingness to grow beyond technical skill alone. Internal beliefs inf luence daily behavior, from pricing and communication to confidence and career direction. Changing your thought process and becoming more confident in your skills, products, and service recommendations will give you more credibility with your clients. Realizing that it's your primary responsibility to rebook clients and find new ones will help you grow a healthy client base. Remember, to maximize your success, you have to continually gain and retain clients. Since you're familiar with your clients' skin type/needs, they should be making purchases from you. GETTY IMAGES
