18 ASCP Skin Deep Autumn 2026 ASCP Skin Deep: How did you get into esthetics? Tiffany Underwood: I struggled with acne for years and know firsthand how much your skin can affect your confidence. During the COVID-19 pandemic, I worked virtually with an esthetician who transformed my skin and my confidence. That experience inspired me to pursue esthetics. Living in a smaller community, I realized there was a need for personalized, corrective skin care, and I wanted to be the person for someone else that my esthetician had been for me. I customize every treatment because no two people are the same. My goal isn't just to improve their complexion but to understand their concerns and create a tailored plan. SD: Tell us about Tiff Tiff's Chemo Bags. TU: While in esthetics school, I was diagnosed with Hairy Cell Leukemia. The day before chemo, I had several visits from friends and family. One gift was a bag full of wonderful gifts to help with possible side effects of chemo. I finished my treatments, passed my state boards, and was hit with another dark cloud just two weeks after my final infusion: My mom was diagnosed with Stage IV pancreatic cancer. I gathered my bag, restocked items, and headed straight to her so she could hopefully have some relief. She sadly passed away just six months after her diagnosis. My husband came up with the idea of creating more chemo bags for anyone going through this horrible and scary disease. To date, we have sent love and comfort to others over 400 times. SD: What advice do you have for other esties who want to get into philanthropic work? TU: I would encourage other estheticians to start with their hearts. You don't have to have every detail figured out. Pay attention to the needs around you and ask, "How can I help?" We are already in the business of caring for people. That compassion doesn't have to stop when someone leaves your treatment room. Whether you are volunteering your time or creating something new, your passion will inspire others to join you. SD: What's your biggest career goal? TU: Just becoming an esthetician was a dream come true! If you had told me a few years ago that I would not only be alive and licensed but also teaching, speaking, traveling to trade shows, developing protocols, working with skin care brands, and contributing to magazines, I never would have believed you. I hope to continue educating, speaking, and writing. One goal is to write product reviews, helping estheticians and consumers better understand the science behind ingredients to make informed decisions. I also hope to continue expanding Tiff Tiff's Chemo Bags so my professional career and my nonprofit work remind people that compassion and connection can change lives.
