12 ASCP Skin Deep Autumn 2026 AS HUMANS, WE ALL HAVE our f laws. One of mine is my deep-seated trust issues. We can get into it more in a future therapy session, but one of the ways this manifested in the past was a fear of letting estheticians touch my skin. I refrained from getting facials for years because I'd had bad experiences with too many extractions and product reactions due to my rosacea. But over time, I've allowed myself to trust again. I found skin care professionals I can open up to in the treatment room. I didn't realize how much I'd allowed myself to trust again until I was in a recent facial with Kourtney, one of my favorite esties who I met a few years ago. She pulled out her high-frequency wand and asked, "Are you OK with a little zapping?" I smiled and, without hesitation, said, "Zap away!" The trust I felt in that moment with Kourtney is the same trust that so many of your clients feel with you. They place their skin and their emotional state in your caring hands for an hour of their day and know they'll emerge feeling their best. You have a unique ability in your career to help your clientele—yes, with their skin, but also with how they feel, the confidence they build, and the trust they create. You have the power to make a difference. The pages of this issue are filled with ways you can make a change. For a quick refresher on the legislation surrounding estheticians' roles as early-detection allies, f lip to page 26. On page 58, you'll find Marjorie Erickson's sage advice on how you can help trauma survivors on their healing journey. Finally, learn about working with clients with invisible conditions on page 68 and how to give back to your community through philanthropic work on page 76. There are so many ways to tap into the aspects of your career to enact change beyond providing a really good treatment. Once you discover what calls to you, you'll find that you create more purpose, and your clients will feel a deeper sense of trust—just like I feel with Kourtney.
