You can have the weight of the world on your shoulders, but when you step into the treatment room, leave the weight of the world outside. SD: Tell us more about your venture in creating and taking a pause to rebrand your cosmetics line. AC: It started because every day I had to go to school, go to work, with some type of makeup on. I like wearing makeup. But when my son was a baby, his skin was so sensitive. I had to be careful with what makeup I wore because he liked snuggling. I started the journey of looking for cosmetics that would work for my skin, specifically lipsticks, because my son liked all the kisses. I came across a vendor, and they let me have a hand in the process of what ingredients went into the products. I didn't have to keep inventory on hand. I was able to just drop-ship it. I started it in 2019, then I rebranded it two years ago and changed the name from IAMA Artistry Cosmetics to Beautifully Broken Kosmetics. At the end of 2025, I wasn't really focused on it as much as I should. I thought, "Let me pause, because right now I'm not able to give 100 percent to this. I will pick it back up once I get everything else streamlined." It's OK to move on to something else. You don't have to focus on every single thing— that's when estheticians go through burnout. Nobody wants to be burned out in this industry that can be so lucrative and so much fun. I had to realize that I was getting close to burnout trying to do everything I was. SD: What advice do you have for your peers trying to make it out there? AC: Something that I say to people whenever they ask if the beauty industry is worth it is: If you're passionate about it, yes. If you're doing it for the money, no. I used to tell my students whenever they had tough times in class, when they didn't feel like showing up, "Always remember why you started. Your calling in your life is to help other people. So, if you're not showing up for your calling or blessing in life, you're hindering somebody else's blessing." Recently, I was on TikTok Live, and I think I maybe got 15 people at one given time. The interaction was really low. But I kept remembering the calling that God has on my life—somebody needs it. And if I don't show up, they're going to miss out on their blessing because I didn't do my part.
