Add-on ideas ExTRACTIONS Add-ons should feature your best products and services, and feel special to the client in some way. If you're confident about and comfortable with your offerings, your clients will be, too. Avoid the temptation to rebrand your least popular existing service as an add-on or charge more for something your clients know you previously included in every facial. Here are some ideas to consider, with suggested prices for each. Many estheticians include extractions in every facial, so it's your call whether or not to make this an optional extra. If your standard facials already include extractions, you can offer extended extraction time for a small charge, somewhere between $5 and $20, depending on the amount of time you plan to spend. ELECTRICAL TREATMENTS Your clients will appreciate this inexpensive add-on. It only takes 5–10 minutes, regardless of the hair removal method you choose, and you can charge $5 to $10. If you are able to provide any of these treatments, they can be big earners. High frequency, galvanic, LED/light therapy, microcurrent, microdermabrasion, and ultrasound usually provide immediate results, and many clients like to have these options as add-ons. Depending on the type, you can charge up to $100 to add an electrical treatment. What Estheticians Say About Add-Ons "Add-on services allow us to address more issues, even at a basic level, while not taking away from a really great client experience." (James Mason, James Mason Skincare, Nevada) "Add-ons don't generally cost me anything except a few minutes of time, but if I choose to throw one in as a special gift for a client, they really appreciate it." (Nicole Bennett, Flawless Face & Body, California) "If you are just adding on services for the monetary gain, clients won't buy into it, but when you upgrade a facial by adding treatments the client really needs, the money will follow." (Claire Barnes, Premier Beauty Solutions, California) "Add-ons are very profitable and the possibilities are endless. They build the respect of the client, helping them understand the investment they are making in themselves." (Lisa Morgan, Veritas Esthetics, Virginia) 18 ASCP Skin Deep September/October 2013 EYEBROW SHAPINg HAND TREATMENTS The hands all too often reveal someone's age. Offer a moisturizing or antiaging hand treatment for at least $10. These will be especially popular during the colder months when hands are chapped and dry. JADE ROLLER The jade roller is an ancient tool for facial massage that is gaining popularity. Clients love the way it feels. You can use it as a separate step during the facial or roll over a mask or serum for the extra benefit of increasing product penetration. Using a jade roller will stimulate circulation and the lymphatic system. This add-on is good to give free for the first treatment, so your client can feel just how lovely and beneficial it is. Then, charge up to $10 to add this service during subsequent facials. LIP TREATMENTS The lips are often overlooked during a facial, but they are important and need to be treated as well. Offer an exfoliation followed by a hydrating mask, then finish with a bit of lip balm. Charge up to $50 for a lip treatment, depending on products and time. For lip treatment ideas, see "Lovely Lips" in the November/December 2012 issue of ASCP Skin Deep (available in our online archive at www.ascpskindeepdigital.com). MASKS Offer an upgrade from your usual mask. This could mean replacing it with a different one or adding a second mask to the facial. A blanket mask or fiber mask will feel different for clients who are not accustomed to these types. Make sure they know you're preparing something special just for them. You can charge between $10 and $50.
