MASKNE TREATMENT PLAN Begin your service by suiting up with the appropriate PPE: gloves, mask, face shield, etc. Then, wrap your client's hair in a disposable headband. Step 1. Double cleanse the face and neck. Your first cleanse should be an oil, cream, or foaming cleanser applied to dry skin. Dry cleansing will help the product adhere to the dirt, oils, and makeup and then break them down. Your second cleanse is an active cleanser. Use glycolic if you need to increase cellular turnover, salicylic if you want to eliminate bacteria, benzoyl peroxide if you want to inhibit oil production, and so on. Remove the cleanser and be sure the skin is completely rinsed. Step 2. Apply an enzyme to help break down blackheads and whiteheads, and to improve cellular turnover. Enzymes are activated by heat, so now is also a good time to towel steam your client. Steam helps to not only activate enzymes, but also relax the muscles and liquify the sebum in the pores. Remove the enzyme and you are ready for extractions. Step 3. Use an antiseptic to prepare the skin for extractions. Use the mag lamp to analyze your client's skin. Talk with your client ahead of time about extraction options and use their preferred method. You want your clients as comfortable as possible during this process. Extract using a lancet when necessary and finish with an antiseptic. 64 ASCP Skin Deep January/February 2021
