Tasha presumed from the dress, makeup,
and demeanor of her new guest, Alexa, that
she was a female. As she prepped the guest,
she noticed that Alexa had the anatomy of
a male. She was surprised but kept calm
and completed the service. She handled
the service so well that Alexa became a
regular guest and began to refer others.
Tasha could have avoided a
potentially embarrassing situation for
both the guest and herself by adapting
her intake forms to collect important
information prior to the appointment.
The AAD made a significant leap in
recognizing health-care disparities for the
sexual and gender minority (SGM) community,
which includes lesbian, gay, bisexual,
transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) individuals.
Health intake questions may include:
1. Does your physical anatomy match your current
gender identification?
2. Are you currently undergoing hormonal
affirmation therapy?
3. Do you have skin care concerns related to
that therapy?
4. Have you undergone gender reassignment surgery?
5. What prescription medications do you take?
6. Do you have any preexisting medical conditions?
