50 january/february 2018 Constant computer screen exposure, travel, lack of sleep, and harsh environments can increase the appearance of dark circles and wrinkles. Full facial treatments may not be good for those men who have beards, but you can incorporate an express eye treatment into a shave and beard treatment. The latest advances in skin care can help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes, creating a more rested and youthful appearance. To perform: Wash the client's beard with an appropriate skin-type cleanser. Provide a light massage to the area. Clean the beard with wet towels and remove the cleanser. Apply a good manual exfoliant containing honey and almond to the cheeks, forehead, and nose with upward and outward motions. Remove the scrub with wet cotton squares. Spray seaweed, aloe, and willow bark- based toner and clean the excess with a dry tissue. Apply a warm towel over the client's face, leaving it on for 2 minutes. Put a cool towel over the client's face to close the pores; leave it for 2 minutes. Remove the towel and clean the excess water with a dry tissue. At this time, you have the option of applying high frequency to the beard area. Follow with the eye treatment. Cleanse the eye area thoroughly, and apply a small amount of peptide-rich eye contour cream. Apply in a circular motion toward the nose area, and then apply pressure to the orbicularis oculi muscle. Follow with tapotement for 3 minutes, then effleurage in a figure-eight pattern using alternating hands. Conclude with pressure point movements. This massage should last 5–7 minutes. Cut an eye pad in half that is presoaked in green tea and seaweed filtrate and place over the lashes. Use a sugar and seaweed-based mask that contains aloe and orange water, applying the mask to the eye contour area with a spatula, covering eyes and eye pads completely. Allow the client to rest for 10–12 minutes. Provide a relaxing hand and lower arm massage while the mask is setting. Remove the eye mask by rolling it inward toward the nose and downward. Gently remove any remaining residue with wet cotton. Apply a lightweight eye serum gently around the eye contour area. Allow to dry undisturbed. Finish with an application of beard nourishing oil.
