Key ingredients to look for include seaweed, glycolic acids, and muds and clays, which all have neutral fragrances and create instant, visible results. Uneven skin tone and hyperpigmentation can develop from overexposure to environmental elements, acne scars, and age. Glycolic peels are typically used, but they can be irritating to sensitive skin types. The newest way to get a peeling effect without the potential irritation is to use a professional clay cream- based mask that combines AHAs with deep cleansing kaolin clay and skin-softening seaweed. This can be used alone or added on to existing facial services for clients who are seeking to reduce the appearance of hyperpigmentation and get a more even-toned complexion. To perform: Cleanse the skin with brightening cleanser. Then, apply a clay cream-based mask with a spatula or brush to the entire face, avoiding the eye area and lower face if the client has a beard. Leave on for 15 minutes. Apply moistened, unfolded cotton squares to the face to help dissolve and remove the mask easily. Wipe off the mask from side to side. Remove the remaining mask using cotton or facial sponges dampened with warm water. Follow with a brightening toner, serum, and moisturizing protection cream. Remember that a full-spectrum SPF 30 or higher sunscreen needs to be used for up to one month following use of glycolic acid. Express Brightening Mask
