The cyclical nature of beginnings and endings speaks to a deeper part of our being, so we annually draw a new line in the sand and claim a starting point for the next chapter in our personal and professional lives. But how can we know where we are going if we don't know where we are? Planning is one of the differences between a resolution and a real goal. Resolutions are thoughts or wishes—simplifications of a greater concept. Goals are defined as the ends toward which effort is directed. And goals take work. For many, that is the disconnect. We all want to succeed, but some of us have trouble committing to the work it will take. By taking a good, hard look at your accomplishments in 2012, you can plan for an even brighter future. Now is the perfect time to review where you are, where you've been, and most importantly, where you want to go.
