Skin Care Associated Professionals In June, I attended my fi rst trade show for skin professionals, the International Esthetics, Cosmetics & Spa Conference (IECSC) in Las Vegas. It was a bit overwhelming for this newbie, but it was also exciting, fun, and, most importantly, educational. The biggest lesson I took away from this conference is the amount of education and knowledge it takes to be a successful esthetician. The vast array of products, tools, techniques, and machinery shed a whole new light on how amazing all of you are at keeping up with this ever-evolving profession. A big thank-you to all the experts I met who enthusiastically shared their knowledge and patiently answered all my questions. How do you keep up? How do you decide which products are the best for your clients, which techniques you want to learn, and which trends you want to invest in? Which trade shows are worthy of your attendance? In this issue, we share some of our own knowledge. Get the no-holds- barred scoop about working in the luxury market—specifi cally, in high- end resorts and on cruise ships. We also offer advice on two trends that may interest you: male clients and medical esthetics. Finally, if you've been thinking of venturing out on your own, check out our feature that lists some things to keep in mind when opening your own spa. My goal as editor of this magazine—and as an ASCP team member— is to help you gather the information you need to be the best skin care professional you can be. Fueled by my adventure at IECSC, I'm even keener to blend my editorial background with my growing knowledge of esthetics. And I'm happy to have you with me on this journey!
