70 ascp skin deep march/april 2020 1. Facebook Facebook now owns four of the fi ve most popular apps (YouTube is owned by Google). With almost 2.5 billion users, Facebook is social media's top dog. Seventy-four percent visit daily and spend 30 minutes or more on the app. Facebook, as the fi fth-most downloaded free app, is especially popular to those earning $75,000 or more, which makes it perfect for small business marketing. Facebook's advertising platform is by far the most developed of all of the social media platforms. You can target by age, gender, employment, interests, purchasing behaviors, relationship status, etc., and many of Facebook's tools are free for small businesses. 2. Messenger Facebook launched Messenger in 2008, and then decided to allow users to download the app without being a Facebook user in 2012. In 2019, Messenger grew to over 1.3 billion daily users and boasts that 40 million businesses use this platform. According to a 2016 Nielsen survey commissioned by Facebook, 53 percent of consumers say they are more likely to do business with a company they can contact via a chat app.2 By activating Messenger on your business Facebook page, you have instant access to building relationships with potential clients. 3. YouTube There are 50 million content creators using YouTube.3 That's a lot of creators, but the platform also has a lot of viewers—over 2 billion each month—and 70 percent watch from their mobile devices.4 Creating a YouTube channel and content may seem challenging, but there are many tutorials online that make building a presence on YouTube totally doable. 4. Instagram People come to Instagram to be inspired by photos and video content—but not only from their friends. User interaction on Instagram also includes content from businesses. According to an Instagram poll, 60 percent of users say they discover new products on Instagram, and over 200 million users visit at least one business profi le each day.5 Since 2017, Instagram has seen an 80 percent increase in time spent watching videos, and a third of the most-viewed stories are from businesses.6 Business accounts are free on Instagram, and you can get real-time metrics and insights on how your followers are interacting with your posts and stories. 5. WhatsApp With over 1.5 billion monthly active users, WhatsApp is the most popular mobile messenger app in the world. As of 2019, the app had an estimated 68 million users in the US and is forecasted to have an audience of almost 86 million users by 2023.7 WhatsApp has two messenger apps, WhatsApp Messenger and WhatsApp Business. WhatsApp Business lets you build a business presence, where you can communicate more effi ciently with your customers and grow your business. Also, if you have separate business and personal phone numbers, you can have both WhatsApp Business and WhatsApp Messenger installed on the same phone. Notes 1.
