www.ascpskincare.com 51 Skin Script Q: What was the genesis of Skin Script? A: I wanted high-quality, eff ective skin care products that were easily accessible to licensed estheticians— meaning no minimum orders and fast shipping. Training occurs online at estheticians' leisure, and our product knowledge training is complimentary. Q: How do you decide to develop new products? A: When I started Skin Script, I certainly had specifi c ideas for every product I had in the line. As we continue in business, I realize that we need to be continually reinventing ourselves and keeping up with the latest ingredients. We off er seasonal enzymes and masks that come and go so the line doesn't become too big, but always has something new to off er. We continue to reevaluate existing formulates to add new, improved ingredients, such as the latest peptides, to our formulas. Q: Tell us a bit about your Empowerment Retreat. A: I had a vision … I wanted an Advanced Education Center where people would come from across the United States to learn from us. We teach some product knowledge, but it is truly about how the skin works and how to be a critical thinker. If you understand how the skin works, you can understand the implications of each client's variables (such as medications or health issues) and how to create treatment plans for each client (without relying on defi ned protocols that cannot fi t every variable of a client). Dave Waggoner, our director of education, delivers this advanced educational piece with patience, humor, and his exceptional knowledge of the skin. This retreat builds confi dence for the esthetician, and that translates to the treatment room. It empowers the esthetician to think about each unique scenario and create answers for themselves. Most importantly, they leave this retreat with the tools needed to grow while also feeling empowered, inspired, refreshed, focused, and prepared to take their business to the next level. FOLLOW THE LEADERS ascp skin deep special advertising section Lisa VanBockern, CEO, Skin Script Q: What are some of the challenges and rewards of owning a skin care business? A: The reward is watching estheticians take the products and tools we off er and work their talent to create amazing results for each client. Products are only as good as the esthetician's hands and knowledge. The challenge for me is learning to let go and let someone else operate the business as we grow. I started it myself and, in the beginning, I did everything myself. I have to learn that there are other ideas than mine. Q: What makes a good leader? A: Someone with love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. All the fruits of the spirit that can help each person bloom in their own space and time. Keeping your levels of expectations and service high, but also learning to get out of the way so your staff can do their work. sponsored by The reward is watching estheticians take the products and tools we offer and work their talent to create amazing results for each client.
