We off er wax packs and waxing kits and volume discount incentives. We love having everything our waxing customers need so they donʼt have to purchase anything anywhere else. We off er free shipping on orders over $199. Q: How has the popularity of waxing changed your business? A: Wax sales have become a substantial portion of our business. The wax comes in and the wax ships out. We keep having to expand our wax inventory area. We keep a good handle on inventory so our customers can count on us never having to backorder their wax. We also arrange auto shipments for our busy waxers. Our trade show classes are packed and our training facility in Springfi eld, Missouri, is very popular, so we are expanding to off er more hands-on classes in various locations. Q: Why should estheticians include waxing services on their menu? A: First, because it is a service that clients want and will pay for. Second, because as estheticians, we specialize in beautifying the skin, and unnecessary hair detracts from that beauty. Facial hair makes it impossible to get a smooth makeup application. Body hair is one of those things that does not improve with age; the texture gets coarser and wiry, and the color gets gray and/or white. Shaving can irritate the skin, and the prickly hair is back the next day. Clients have a problem. We have a solution. Everybody is happy. FOLLOW THE LEADERS ascp skin deep special advertising section Kathleen Carney, CEO, Skin Blends, LLC Q: What do estheticians need to know before they start waxing? A: It is not as easy as it looks. Investing in a reputable hands- on training class is the best investment an esthetician can make. Instead of you watching the instructor, have the instructor watch you and perfect your techniques. Good estheticians know that good waxing is all about the health of the skin after you wax it. You must prepare the skin, use a good wax, use good bracing techniques while waxing, and fi nish the service by thoroughly cleansing and calming the skin. Smart estheticians use a consent form for information like medications, sun exposure, and prior mishaps every time they wax, and will sell home-maintenance products to keep skin healthy with proper exfoliation and hydration. Q: Do you anticipate any new waxing trends for 2018? A: Waxing is becoming as common as getting your hair cut. There are a lot of waxing chains, but there is still a huge demand for a more personal service environment. I think we can expect to be doing a lot more full-body waxing on males and females. People love the clean look and smooth feel of hair-free skin. Even though we dermaplane the vellus hair on ladies' faces, they still want the coarse hairs on their brow, lip, and chin waxed fi rst. And once they have experienced a nostril wax, it becomes a regular service. sponsored by Investing in a reputable hands-on training class is the best investment an esthetician can make.
