8 march/april 2018 Spring Forward FROM THE EDITOR www.facebook.com/ascpskincare @ascpskincare http://bit.ly/ASCPlinkedin www.skincareprofessionals.com Follow us online! https://plus.google.com/+ascpskincare @ascpskincare I love spring for many reasons. I live in Colorado, so spring means it can snow a foot one day, then be 65 degrees and sunny the next (and I love a snow day as much now as I did as a kid). In the skin care profession, spring also means the beginning of a new year of trade shows. I get to travel to many shows throughout the year, and even though attending classes, listening to presentations, and visiting hundreds of exhibitor booths can be exhausting, shows like IECSC, ISPA, and Face & Body are just so much fun. I see lots of old friends and meet lots of new ones, and I always leave exhilarated and inspired by all the new products, devices, and most of all, the pure passion I see from the estheticians and manufacturers who take the time to patiently and enthusiastically share their knowledge with me. I can't wait to do it all again! This spring also marks a big change at ASCP. We say a fond farewell to our beloved executive director, Lauren Snow, who is moving on to pursue new and exciting projects in the world of esthetics, and welcome Tracy Donley as ASCP's new managing director. Some of you already know Tracy; she's been here working hard as our director of advertising and partnerships, and I can tell you that her pure excitement (not to mention more than 20 years of leading teams and companies to the next level of success) will keep ASCP evolving as the largest association in the country for skin care professionals. It's probably still a little chilly where you are, so I hope you take advantage of some indoor time and enjoy this issue. We hear the words natural and organic a lot these days, as health-conscious consumers become more and more interested in the ingredients they put in and on their bodies. These buzzwords are certainly prevalent in our industry, so we devote this issue to talking about We devote this issue to talking about botanicals—their popularity and eff ectiveness, as well as some defi nitions, facts, and fallacies. botanicals—their popularity and effectiveness, as well as some definitions, facts, and fallacies. Finally, I want to announce that voting opens on March 1 for our 2nd annual Readers' Choice Awards! They were a big hit last year, and we look forward to hearing from even more of you this year. You are the experts; tell us what you think! Vote for your favorite products and devices at www.ascpskincare. com/vote-readers-choice. Cheers, Mary Barthelme Abel Editor mabel@ascpskincare.com
