Back to Basics
Skin care has come a long
way since I was a teen and
learned from my mother that a
quick wash with Ivory soap was
all the care my face needed.
At some point, I discovered the
cosmetic aisle in Walgreens. I was
intrigued with the wide variety of
lotions and potions, and started
spending my babysitting money on
anything that grabbed my attention.
And then, perhaps 15 years ago, I
received a gift certifi cate for a facial
and was introduced to the world of
esthetics and professional products.
Learning about these products and
the proper steps to help my, ahem,
aging skin was a game changer for
me, and I've never looked back.
Like you, this is the message I want
all women—and men—to hear. We
can't look or feel our best by purchasing
random products from a drugstore shelf.
Professional knowledge, guidance, and
treatments are the only ways to keep our skin looking and feeling the best it can.
This issue is fi lled with some of the basics of professional skin care—solid
information you can share with your clients about proper sun protection,
cutting-edge devices, signs of melanoma, and a fascinating article about the
history of skin care and the development of the products we enjoy today.
