5 Mantras for Social Media Social media can be the perfect marketing solution for a small business. From seasoned spa owners to new skin care graduates, anyone can use it to promote their services. Social media is easy to use. It's also free, requiring only your time commitment. When used correctly, it can become a do-it-yourself public relations department for your business. Here are five things to keep in mind that will help you start out right. 1. Know Your Audience Identifying your target audience will save a lot of wasted time and effort. Ideally, you want to reach out to your existing clients, as well as attract new ones. How much do you already know about who is coming into your business? How old are they? Where do they live? How much disposable income do they have, and how else do they like to spend it? How often are they online, and what websites do they use? Think of how you can politely find out these facts. A survey may be the way to go. Or, if you have a client who's constantly glued to her smartphone before and after every service, ask her where she spends most of her time online. Once you've established who your audience is, you'll be better able to decide what they might enjoy seeing online from you and which social media platforms will be best suited for your efforts.
