There's one thing that I've noticed successful skin care business owners have in common, and you may be surprised at what it is. I work with estheticians all over the United States helping them start and/or grow their businesses. I've noticed a common theme with all the successful estheticians. It's really very simple. They are happy. I don't mean they put on a huge smile and act happy when the client comes through the door. I mean they are genuinely happy people, excited about their careers, full of playfulness and wonder. They feel no fear. The estheticians I speak with who are not doing so well are knee-deep in fear. Afraid there's not enough money, afraid about getting clients, afraid of getting sued by those clients, afraid to try a new piece of equipment. Oh my, that's exhausting just writing about all that fear. They are full of fear. We live in an energy-based world and other people can feel the energy we exude whether we realize it or not. Have you ever been drawn to someone but you really don't know why…that's energy, good energy! Has someone ever repulsed you and you can't get away fast enough? That's energy too, yucky energy. I can hear you saying "But Shelley, I have so much to be afraid about. There truly is not enough money and I don't have enough clients and my husband is telling me to get a real job." I could go on! Despite all of that, you need to dig deep and decide to be happy no matter what's going on around you. It won't be easy at first, but when little things start to change, it feels so great that being happy will come a little more natural. Then when things really start to change, you will not ever want to go back to fear; happy will be the norm. October 1st, 2007, was the day that my husband and I decided to do this…be happy. We had sold my first day spa and were figuring out our next move. It was an unsettled and scary time. Yes, I said it….scary, as in fear! We realized that fear wasn't working so good for us, so we decided to try happy and guess what? It worked!! Here we are now in 2014 having so much fun. We didn't just turn on the happy switch (that would be awesome if there was a happy switch!), it took work and it wasn't always easy but it was really worth it. Life is meant to be fun! Find your happy switch and start having more fun. Then sit back and watch your business grow.
