Create your free business website! www.ascpskincare.com 19 esthetics practice is to set your intent to learn the work, find a teacher, and take a class. The process isn't expensive or time-consuming, and it can be very rewarding. The treatment itself involves placing the hands on, or just above, the client's body. It is not a massage modality; your hands rest on the client in different positions and are used to channel energy to the client. While many estheticians incorporate reiki into their regular facial services, it is also a modality that many clients enjoy as a complete treatment on its own. A reiki treatment can be 30–90 minutes long. A 30-minute session usually covers the head and neck only. An hour-long session will include the head, neck, and front of the body, while a 90-minute session will add the back of the body, too. Think carefully about the amount of time and effort it will take you for each session when you are deciding on pricing. Since there are no products involved, the main factor in pricing your reiki treatments will be the length of the session. Reiki Training In the Usui System and most other types of reiki, there are three levels of training, or attunements, as they are often called. Level One teaches you how to work with the reiki energy and the hand positions used in a reiki treatment. You will practice those hand positions a lot during the class, as there are quite a few of them. You will also learn how to do a reiki treatment on yourself. Some teachers do their Level One classes as a one-day course, while others will spread it over a weekend. When you sign up for the class, you will receive some preparatory instructions to read and follow beforehand. Often, teachers who lead a weekend class will have a Friday night get-together to answer students' questions before formal instruction begins the next day. After training, you receive homework, usually in the form of a to-do list. This may include books to read, reiki treatments to perform on yourself, and reiki treatments to perform on other people. Once you have completed these items, your reiki teacher will give you a certificate verifying that you are a Level One reiki practitioner of that particular school or style of reiki. Completing this level is all that is necessary to incorporate reiki into your skin care practice. Later you may want to continue to Level Two, which further develops your ability to work with reiki energy and teaches you additional hand positions and symbols, or the final level, Reiki Master, which enables you to teach reiki to others. While many estheticians incorporate reiki into their regular facial services, it is also a modality that many clients enjoy as a complete treatment on its own.
