Reiki was developed in the early 20th century by Mikao Usui, ThD, and was introduced to the West by Hawayo Takata, who practiced it as a healing modality in Hawaii for many years before beginning to train others in her own version of Usui System reiki during the 1970s. Today, there are several other types of reiki, but all are based on the idea of bringing the client's meridians (the body's energy lines, according to Chinese traditional medicine) into balance by channeling relaxing energy from the practitioner's hands. Reiki Treatments Reiki can be performed on clients with no changes or additions needed in your treatment room. Clients can wear their clothes or a spa wrap, you already have a comfortable table, and you probably have other items in place to create a soothing and relaxing atmosphere— music, soft lighting, and perhaps aromatherapy.
