54 ASCP Skin Deep Spring 2026 5 Customize a Thoughtful Treatment. When you move at a slower pace, you have time for more thorough customization. The choice of a hydrating add-on may be great for one client, while the choice of a high- frequency add-on would be better for another. When you slow down, you can respond to how the client's skin reacts in the moment (i.e., searching for the appropriate clinical endpoint or noticing signs of reactiveness sooner). 6 Increase Client Relaxation. Although many practitioners are results- driven and work in a medspa setting, clients still often expect to experience some level of relaxation when receiving a treatment. Helping your client relax aids in calming the treatment hormones that typically trigger more breakouts and inflammation. Remember: Calmer clients can equal calmer skin. 7 Communicate and Educate. Clients rely on us to be the experts and direct them to solutions that will address their concerns. Slowing down at the beginning or the end of the treatment to educate your client will improve compliance with the recommended treatment plan, which in turn will render long-term results. Additionally, it's always important that clients feel heard and understood. Making time for education will build trust, set realistic expectations, and empower clients to actively participate in their skin care journey—leading to better adherence, improved outcomes, and long-term client confidence. 10 WAYS 8 Experience Fewer Mistakes. Rushing through treatments can often increase the risk for errors, including causing trauma to the skin. Moving with intention encourages a more intentional technique. It protects both the skin and the integrity of the practitioner. 9 Expect More Consistent Results. Predictable results come from taking a steady, thoughtful approach to skin care instead of pushing the skin into constant cycles of irritation and recovery. When the skin is allowed to improve gradually, flare-ups are reduced and progress feels more reliable. This kind of consistency builds trust between the client and practitioner and makes results easier to maintain over time without needing aggressive resets or constant troubleshooting. 10 Create a Sustainable Approach to Skin Health. Taking your time in the treatment room supports a more sustainable approach to skin health. In an age when fast results are heavily promoted and practitioners often feel pressure to deliver immediate change, this mindset shifts the focus away from quick fixes and back to true skin wellness—prioritizing long-term health, consistency, and results that last. When you slow down, you can respond to how the client's skin reacts in the moment.
