The Blood Similarly, with the blood, we need to take care of clearing out any impurities that may circulate with the blood itself. Think about it this way: When we are sick, the reason we get fever, aches, and pains is because of the impurities that are circulating through the body. What made us sick begins to circulate through the blood (and the lymph). So, it's not uncommon for other impurities to enter our system and manifest externally on our skin. The lymph and blood systems work together to create what we see as the skin. But they also work deep underneath it. When either of these systems is out of balance, it's reflected on our skin externally. WHERE TO START—WATER INFUSIONS Our body is made up of 70 percent water. So, the first place to start with internal supports for skin health is to drink an adequate amount of water. Sometimes we can add salt if we feel the skin is too dry, sometimes we can add electrolytes or a small amount of a natural sweetener to support the absorption of that water. But let's take it one step further. How can we amplify our water in the simplest way? Infusions. Infusions are a great way to introduce herbs and plants into our bodies to specifically support healthy circulation as well as clarifying properties for the skin. Following are some go-tos. Herbs to Nourish and Soothe ALOE VERA. Aloe gel is a well-known herbal ally that supports the general health of the skin. It has a cooling property that can help decrease inflammation or redness. Aloe is great for those with symptoms of acne or hives. However, if there is congestion or puffiness in the skin, aloe may not be your first choice. One or two tablespoons of aloe gel (inner fillet only, which is the clear, inner gel of the leaf) diluted in 18–20 ounces of water is a great place to start. What Is Ayurveda? Ayurveda is an ancient system that incorporates a holistic perspective on treating an individual. In Ayurveda, each individual has a unique baseline level of health. It incorporates various practices to support the individual and bring them back to their baseline in areas such as diet, lifestyle, herbal medicine, yoga, meditation, and bodywork. 78 ASCP Skin Deep Spring 2026 Fresh ginger root STOCKSY
