It took me going to an improv class to get me comfortable being in front of other people and on camera. If you plan on being in business for a long time, you might as well start now. Showing up on camera can take months of consistency to really get comfortable. It's also OK to not show your face on camera. There are plenty of accounts on Instagram that are "no face accounts," meaning they promote products without showing their face or talking directly to the camera. They use words, music, and interesting angles or lighting to showcase products or services. Doing voice-overs also allows you to film content and describe it to viewers without being on camera. Editing Videos Editing video can be fun. TikTok and Instagram both have native editing. I recommend watching YouTube videos to learn how to use that software, and then create practice videos. Alternatively, you can skip Instagram and TikTok software and use my favorite software, CapCut. STEP 4: POSTING AND PROMOTING The best places to post your videos are Instagram and TikTok. Generally, Instagram caters to a demographic of older millennials. On TikTok, you will find more users who are Gen Z and younger millennials. Pick the platform where your clients are most likely to be—you can always expand later. I write my captions to be educational or to communicate what I'm talking about. Often, I'll keep my captions short and sweet. But if there's something I want to elaborate on, I'll usually write out my thoughts and then use an AI software, like ChatGPT, to help me refine my point. Before posting a finished video, make sure you engage with accounts that follow you and accounts where your ideal clientele might be. Start by liking and commenting on posts from other small businesses in your area. People who read the comments could end up clicking on your profile. If they start following you, and if you post regularly, they will start seeing your content. FINAL THOUGHTS Video is the most powerful tool for marketing your business. Don't get overwhelmed by the process and keep your focus by following the simple steps of brainstorming ideas, scripting them, and following through by producing videos. Remember, the goal is not perfection but connection with our audience. The most important thing I've learned: Video is king and static posts are out. GETTY IMAGES
