The report also conveys an expectation that brands in the global sun care industry will continue to expand functionality of sun care products and highlight the risks of visible light, infrared, and ultraviolet (UV) rays. It's important to educate your clients about choosing the right sunscreen and applying it effectively. In Environmental Working Group's (EWG) 18th annual guide to sunscreens, only one in four—out of 1,700 products tested—meet the standards for ingredient safety and sun protection efficacy. These EWG-determined standards include products being free of specific harmful substances and offering sufficient defense against UVA and UVB rays. Remind your clients to read ingredient labels and to keep in mind that some SPF claims can be clever marketing tricks and not always indicators of good protection.
