Spa Industry
Crosses $20 Billion
Revenue Threshold
In May, the International SPA
Association (ISPA) released its
"2023 ISPA US Spa Industry Study"
fi ndings, citing industry-wide
growth despite COVID's lasting
impact.
"The spa industry is making up
for lost time, and revenue growth of
11.1 percent is the spotlight statistic,"
ISPA President Lynne McNees
says in a release. "But the increase
in staffi ng—especially full-time
employees, up more than 5 percent—
is an even more unmistakable
indicator of vitality." The fi ndings
also show an increase among part-
time employees, with an overall
increase in full-time, part-time, and
contract employees of 4.6 percent.
The study's biggest fi nding
reveals revenue growth in the
industry from around $18 billion
in 2021 to over $20 billion. There's
also a reported increase in spa
visits—from 173 million in 2021 to
181 million—and an increase
in revenue per spa visit to $111.50
per visit.
"The US spa industry has
rebounded very strongly," says Colin
McIlheney, Global Research Leader
at PriceWaterhouseCoopers, which
conducted the research. "And the
iconic $20 billion revenue threshold
has been reached and indeed
exceeded. This is the milestone—the
dawn of what I believe will herald
