Whether it's for work or to stay in touch with
friends and family, nearly everyone spent more
time looking at their faces on devices during
the pandemic. Unfortunately, that much video
conferencing is beginning to take its toll.
Advanced Dermatology recently surveyed 1,450
Americans who regularly participate in video calls
to ask them how it has affected their perception of
themselves.
Here's what they had to say:
• 85 percent say seeing themselves on video calls
made them more self-conscious about their
appearance.
• 73 percent say they're less happy with their
appearance now than pre-pandemic.
• 59 percent bought skin care products or changed
skin care routines specifically because of video
calls.
• People are most self-conscious about bags under
their eyes, wrinkles on their forehead, and the
appearance of their teeth.
True to its name, the Zoom Boom is a real
phenomenon, and many people are making bigger
investments in their appearance because of the
pandemic, with 61 percent saying they are more
interested in cosmetic procedures based on what
