8 ASCP Skin Deep November/December 2021
One Year Later
IN THE NOVEMBER/DECEMBER 2020 ISSUE of this
magazine, I wrote about fi nding gratitude during tough
times and how inspired I was by our members who were
determined to keep their businesses going, no matter what.
A year later, times are still pretty tough—and you're still
with us, working hard. You're dealing with ever-changing
restrictions and fi nding ways to safely care for your clients.
You're keeping up with new products, techniques, and
devices (I've seen many of you at a few trade shows this year)
and learning new ways to market and grow your business.
You are amazing.
We're still here, too, working hard to fi nd new ways to
support you. We created a special COVID-19 issue and built
an online platform to hold the most up-to-date resources
for dealing with the pandemic. We also started a new
publication for professional cosmetologists and continued to
grow our online education library.
Looking forward, let's talk about men—specifi cally, male
clients. Our intrepid reporter, Lisa Bakewell, interviewed
four estheticians who have a signifi cant male clientele to
learn how they market to, attract, and keep this lucrative
demographic (page 50). Surveys continue to show that men
are just as likely as women to seek professional skin care.
Some surveys have also shown that men spend more on
products and are more loyal to brands than women.
If you're interested in getting more men in your spa,
there's not a better time. In tough times, we all want to
feel good about ourselves. You have the power to make it
happen.
Cheers,
