8 ASCP Skin Deep March/April 2021 You Are Resilient I RECENTLY READ A TWEET that said, "It's like 2020 put on a wig and returned as 2021." It made me chuckle, but it's so true—the new year didn't magically make the di• cult time we're living through disappear, no matter how much we wished for it. And even though we're still bogged down in the uncertainty that comes with the COVID-19 pandemic, I do feel a glimmer of hope for our industry—because of you. For virtually every day of the past 12 months, I have watched in awe as ASCP estheticians across the country stepped up in inspiring ways to keep their businesses going. You didn't just close up shop and go home. You set up virtual consultations; you sold retail products with curbside pickup, doorstep delivery, and the good old post o• ce; you used your time away from your clients to educate yourself on new techniques, modalities, and ingredients. You kept moving forward like the professional you are. You haven't stopped, and neither have we. We're still here to educate and inspire you, and I guarantee you'll be inspired by this year's Esty of the Year, Nicole Gauci (page 48). Her lifelong stuggle with an anxiety disorder didn't stop her from getting though school, opening her own spa, and keeping it going through the pandemic. Her story reminds me of how strong and resilient all of you are, and I'm so grateful to be able to work for you. I hope that what I do as part of ASCP helps you, even if in a small way. You are not alone; we are here for you. FROM THE EDITOR Mary Barthelme Abel Editor mabel@ascpskincare.com @ascpskincare www.facebook.com/ascpskincare @ascpskincare Follow us online!
