A CIDESCO certification provides credentials of the highest level of advanced education that automatically informs prospective employers that candidates are multi- licensed, have an extensive education, and are well prepared for any type of spa or beauty opportunity. CIDESCO programs offer students hands-on experience in facial and body treatments, where they learn to provide any number of services, from skin care and assessments to eyebrow tinting, massage and even waxing, enabling them to perform at the highest global standards. HISTORY OF CIDESCO Since 1957, CIDESCO has been the world's major international beauty therapy association, setting professional and examination standards across five continents; representing over 44 countries for the promotion and exchange of professional knowledge, new developments, and information; and educating its members through annual international congresses held all over the world. CIDESCO has become the world standard for beauty and spa therapy. With its headquarters located in Zurich, Switzerland, CIDESCO promotes esthetics on an international basis. The association was created to unite beauty therapists in an effort to exchange ideas and build a framework for education, exams, and teaching in a progressive, unified way. CIDESCO's first Beauty Therapy diploma was issued in 1958, marking the start of a change in the standards and education in the industry with the first CIDESCO Sections being accepted in Belgium, Austria, the Netherlands, and Switzerland. Today, CIDESCO has 29 national Sections that represent CIDESCO in their country and millions of graduate and postgraduate students worldwide. Above Average Job Growth for Esties According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), esty jobs have an expected growth rate of 11 percent between 2018 and 20281—a rate considered by the BLS to be "much faster than average." The BLS attributes new service offerings, a rising demand for skin treatments (for both medical and cosmetic purposes), and an increase in salon and spa openings for the industry's accelerated growth. According to the BLS, estheticians with experience should have the best job opportunities. Note 1. Bureau of Labor Statistics, US Department of Labor, "Skincare Specialists," accessed March 2020, www.bls.gov/ooh/personal-care- and-service/skincare-specialists.htm. With the acceleration of technology and science, CIDESCO continually adapts curriculum to maintain the highest professional standards in esthetics.
