find your dream career! ascpskincare.com/career-toolkits 53 TiZO Q: What was the genesis of TiZO? A: TiZO was introduced in 2003, but its roots go back even further. As a practicing plastic surgeon in the 1980s and 1990s, TiZO's founder, Dr. Harry Fallick, witnessed the aftermath of skin cancers in the course of his reconstructive work. He also recognized the importance of safe sun protection for photosensitive skin, or skin that is compromised temporarily by procedures such as laser resurfacing. TiZO (Titanium Dioxide and Zinc Oxide) grew out of his mission to create healthier sunscreens, avoiding chemical UV filters, with superb elegance to maximize compliance. Q: How does Dr. Fallick's background as a plastic surgeon inform the development of TiZO products? A: Dr. Fallick's background guides product development in terms of both health and esthetics. First, his approach to skin health is integrative, understanding that what you put on your body is as important as what you put in it. So TiZO products are free of dyes, fragrances, gluten, preservatives, phthalates, and, of course, chemical sunscreens. Second, his background as a plastic surgeon informs the visual and tactile esthetics of TiZO products. Sheer, silky, soft, and gentle are key, and the highest quality ingredients are used to deliver those attributes. Q: Why is mineral sunscreen preferred over chemical sunscreen? A: Mineral sunscreens (titanium dioxide and zinc oxide) work differently than chemical sunscreens in several ways, and those differences are why only mineral sunscreens are used in TiZO products. Mineral sunscreens lie on top of the skin and reflect damaging UVA-UVB rays; chemical sunscreens absorb into the skin and get into the bloodstream, while absorbing UVA-UVB rays onto the skin. Since mineral sunscreens do not absorb through the skin, they are great for sensitive skin and cause very few allergic reactions. In contrast, chemical sunscreens can be irritating to skin and eyes, and cause most sunscreen allergies. FOLLOW THE LEADERS ascp skin deep special advertising section Q: What should estheticians know about TiZO? A: It is important to know that TiZO has a skin care line, TiZO Photoceutical Skincare, that works in conjunction with their sunscreens. These skin care products help reverse damage caused by the sun while also protecting from future photodamage. By using TiZO mineral sunscreens and the Photoceutical Skincare line together, your clients are able to not only protect from harmful UVA and UVB rays but also accelerate cell turnover, brighten and even out skin tone, and soften fine lines and wrinkles. Q: What do you love about your job? A: What I love most about being an esthetician is the ability to help other people feel confident in their own skin. Skin is the body's largest organ, and it is important to take care of it by using the best ingredients and products on the market. It is so rewarding to guide a client toward the products that make a difference in their skin. As a trainer, I love being able to pass that knowledge on to others. sponsored by By using TiZO mineral sunscreens and the Photoceutical Skincare line together, your clients are able to not only protect from harmful UVA and UVB rays but also accelerate cell turnover, brighten and even out skin tone, and soften fine lines and wrinkles.
