find your dream career! ascpskincare.com/career-toolkits 51 Hale & Hush Q: Why did you start Hale & Hush? A: When I originally started in the skin care industry, I worked for an FDA lab that created other lines. I worked as a go-between with the client and the research and development department as they were creating their brands. I would also help the brands create training programs for their employees. I left the lab to work with Morag Currin (Oncology Training International) on her Tecniche line and eventually purchased it from her. About 4½ years ago, I bought out my partners and rebranded to Hale & Hush, as I saw the industry changing and a need for professional sensitive skin products. I also have friends and family members who suffer from a variety of skin challenges that I wanted to help. Q: Why did you decide to focus on products for sensitive skin? A: I originally focused on oncology skin with my previous company, Tecniche. As I was writing, doing presentations, and creating products, I realized that if the products could show results on an oncology client, why not use them on other sensitive clients? Many of the same issues that an oncology client suffers with, like inflammation, dehydration, rashes, and breakouts, are the same things most sensitive clients suffer from as well. While 10 years ago clients may have said they were oily, combo, or dry when describing their skin types, today over 40 percent say they are sensitive or reactive. The skin care professional needs to determine what is causing their client to be sensitive and decide on right course of treatments and ingredients to address their client's concerns and skin challenges. Q: What should estheticians know about Hale & Hush products? A: Hale & Hush focuses on repairing and protecting barrier function, increasing hydration, and reducing inflammation, but also has all the "buzz word" antiaging ingredients the consumer is asking for today. The line is very complementary to other professional skin care lines but can also be a stand- alone line if you are not interested in doing more aggressive exfoliation. We have revitalizing treatments including an enzyme treatment and an AHA option, as we do not want FOLLOW THE LEADERS ascp skin deep special advertising section to peel sensitive skin harshly. Hale & Hush also has new protocols for combining the line with various equipment like LED, microcurrent, radiofrequency, microdermabrasion, etc., and protocols for the normal skin client too. Q: What's next for Hale & Hush? A: We are adding new products to round out the line with new antiaging ingredients that will continue to help sensitized skin without doing harm. We will also be updating our product knowledge classes and adding new trainers across the country to keep up with the demand to get education on the products. We are adding more advanced ingredient knowledge, health- challenged skin, and skin challenges classes in the second half of the year. We want to continue to add to all features of training, products, and marketing options to accommodate the requests that we are getting from our clients. Q: What is the most rewarding part of owning your own business? A: I love coming to work every day and having the opportunity to connect with my clients. I love to hear their success while using Hale & Hush, as well as help them brainstorm a particular protocol for their clients. sponsored by While 10 years ago clients may have said they were oily, combo, or dry when describing their skin types, today over 40 percent say they are sensitive or reactive. —Kris Campbell Kris Campbell, founder and CEO, Hale & Hush
