Melting Pot
FROM THE EDITOR
When you read the title
of this page, do you
think of where you keep
your wax? That makes
sense. But the type of
melting pot we discuss in
this issue is that of your
clientele. It's about the
wonderful diversity of
people who walk through
your spa's door in search
of becoming their best
selves. How do you show
the world that your spa
welcomes everyone?
To help you answer this
question, we're taking on the
topic of inclusion: what it means
and why it's time for estheticians
to embrace it. Thinking about
this topic star ts with self-ref lection, with figuring
out what preconceptions or biases you hold as tr uth.
(Hint: We all hold a few.) I also think watching
beaut y ads with a critical eye, paying attention to
how they may reinforce stereot y pes regarding race,
age, and societ y's definition of beaut y, helps all of us
discover our own prejudices. In this issue, we also
get practical, with tips and advice on working with
transgender clients and caring for skin of color.
We hope you enjoy this issue and feel inspired to
explore the ways you can show the world that your
spa welcomes all people. Happy New Year and all our
best for a bright and exciting 2020!

WHAT I'M LOVING NOW
I'm a big fan of Phytomer, so I
was excited to try its newest
off ering, Oligoforce Advanced
Wrinkle and Dark Spot Correction
Moisturizing Serum. That's a lot
of promise packed in a product
name, but in the short time I've
been using it, I've defi nitely
noticed an improvement in my
skin's hydration—not an easy
accomplishment for a lady of
a certain age who lives in arid
Colorado. $126 (1 ounce);
