ascp now offers advanced modality insurance! ascpskincare.com/ami 31 Sunscreens for beach and outdoor use often contain oils and fatty-based spreading agents that can be comedogenic (cause clogged pores) for oily and acne-prone skin. Have lightweight, matte sunscreens that have been certified noncomedogenic available for your clients to buy. DRY SKIN Clients with dry skin tend to love summer because the increased humidity helps the skin's moisture level. In general, skin maintains its own barrier function well in humid environments. Improved barrier function increases moisture in the skin and also has good effects on skin smoothness. On the other hand, clients with dry skin who live in dry climates will continue to struggle with keeping their skin moisturized and hydrated. Some clients who are very dry in the winter will find their products too heavy for increased humidity levels and may even have sudden problems with pimples or clogged pores. Help your client choose the right daily-use moisturizers for their humidity level. SUN PROTECTION Using a daily SPF-15 or higher, broad- spectrum sunscreen is the most important part of any skin care program for any season. The trick in getting clients to use sunscreen every day is to make sure sunscreen is built into a day moisturizer appropriate for the client's skin type. Clients who love their moisturizer will automatically be using sunscreen every day! It is up to the esthetician to have several different weights of sunscreen/ moisturizer so they can choose the perfect consistency for every client. And we can't emphasize this to our clients enough: the only safe tan is a sunless tan! Help your clients who love a tan to choose an appropriate sunless tanning product and teach them how to use it. Or add spray-tanning to your list of services. TEACH PREVENTION Between vacations, events, and activities, we all spend a lot of time outdoors during the summer months. Teach your clients that prevention—using sunscreen and the proper products—is much better than having to correct all the damage after the summer sun fades. And, of course, practice what you preach! The trick in getting clients to use sunscreen every day is to make sure sunscreen is built into a day moisturizer appropriate for the client's skin type.
